Safety boot protects from ankle injuries
Sievi has developed a new type of safety boot for demanding working conditions in the winter.

Sievi has developed a new safety boot featuring ankle support which adapts to the foot shape, and a sole which remains flexible even in freezing conditions. These come as standard equipment in the Star Roller safety boot, which will be launched in November.

Ankle injuries are common occupational accidents. It is the safety footwear’s task to prevent injuries, but even most of the long-legged safety boots do not give enough ankle support.

In the new safety boot style the ankle part is supported by viscoelastic memory foam padding, which due to the effect of body heat adapts to the foot shape. Thus, the leg part does not feel hard or stiff, but protects the ankle almost imperceptibly. At the same time, it prevents ankle injuries and absorbs external shocks.

The ankle protection is designed to function together with the Boa® closure system, familiar from other Sievi models. The laces are adjusted by turning the button, which makes the lace mechanism close the footwear evenly, directing the support to the right spot. Putting the boots on and adjusting the laces can be done by one hand, even when wearing gloves.

Winter conditions have been taken into even greater account with regards to the footwear sole material. The newly designed FlexStep® sole material, developed by Sievi for the demanding Nordic conditions, maintains its excellent shock absorbing properties and flexibility in freezing conditions even better than before. Since the sole remains softer, it provides excellent grip and feel for the ground. The sole construction eliminates stress and shocks to the feet and spine along the entire length of the foot. The same sole material is featured in all Sievi footwear.

Other safety equipment of the Star Roller are durable scuff cap, reflectors visible in daylight, light, metal free composite toecap and penetration resistant midsole made of steel. The footwear incorporates breathable Thermo Alu thermal insole with heat insulating aluminium layer built in the insole construction. The upper material of the footwear is durable, water and dirt repellent PU-leather.

Sievi is the largest manufacturer of footwear in Northern Europe. The company’s main products are safety and occupational footwear as well as military footwear. Approximately half of the production is exported. All products are manufactured in Finland, where the Sievi Group employs over 500 persons. Group turnover in 2012 was 77 million euros.
